Mystery fossil found on the Kankakee river (please help identify)

I think this may be a mastodon fossil, but I have no real idea. I found it on a beach on north island, Kankakee River, Wilmington Illinois.

It sort of looks like Carboniferous wood impressions, but they are a little too perfect. I suspect that it is Lathoxylon impressions; modern metal lath impressed into concrete, plaster or similar substance. I think that I even see some rust stains.

I basically agree with @DPS Ammonite, I've seen cement solidified inside a fabric sack that looks similar too.
