3 dinosaur egg, which one is better?

Recommended Posts

Hello! Well following the thread of the other post I found 3 eggs of better quality but much more expensive ...

What do you think is better preserved and is of better quality?

Right now I can only choose one ...

Thank you so much.

Sincerily, fossilized eggs are not common so, to me, those ones are all in a good state of preservation with a little preference for the last one.

Folks seem to like the third egg pictured. It is obviously from a different type of critter than the first two. It has the appearance of eggs from China generally described as the egg of Oviraptor, while the first two are generally pitched for sale as Hadrosaur. The third is notable for its elongated shape and rugose ornamentation of the shell. Indeed these generally command a higher price than the "Hadrosaur" eggs. I don't know if price is a consideration in your quest. Good luck, have fun.

Thank you so much! The price is the same in the 3 eggs. So are good ones? Any restoration at add parts?

The third one possibly m.rugustus looks to have areas of restoration can't point them out right now as not at home but hopefully someone who has keen eye can point these out with Photoshop.

@Raulsaurus The first two could be Dendroolithus, which are most likely from Therizinosaurs and not hadrosaurs. From what I can tell, both do appear to be real. Spheroolithus is typically the egg type linked to hadrosaurs.

Am actually going to disagree with others on the 3rd one, while likely a real egg, it is INCORRECTLY restored with eggshell from another egg type. See the differences I have circled, the left circled shell is incorrect for the egg whereas the right circle is showing the proper eggshell.  It could be Macroolithus and is certainly within the Elongatoolithid family, which are eggs from oviraptors.

Obviously it is your call, I can only speak from the perspective of eggs I would be interested in for research and that would be all of them haha but suppose I could only have one, I might pick the 1st one.

Agreed.

Furthermore, the whole area (on the left side of the picture) seems to be "restored" i think.

Some areas of the other both eggs looks suspicious imo, too....

Even then, as already said nice ones.

Depending on the origin of the eggs, consider the legal aspects...

Well, imo the shells seems to be in a much better shape than the other ones and i cannot see any bigger red flags.

Restoration: yes, some parts are glued but no really suspicious areas like in the other ones imo.

But wait and let's see what "eggsperts" like CBchiefski, Haravex, Crazyhen and Troodon will tell...

So we wait them...

Other egg...

True that whole left side also has many red flags, was in a hurry but should have pointed that out. I personally see yellow flags on both of the other two as well but suspect them to be real.

I second that, clear glue in at least 4 areas but that is the only point which readily jumps out. Some of the eggshell appears in cross-section, and so am fairly confident the shell at least is real.

Hard to say and am not sure with this one. I am seeing odd aspects which would indicate it is fake however fakes missing so much shell are rare. Personally, I would error on the side of caution and not buy it.

This is a great egg and in great quality. You won’t find much better than this and if you do it’ll be 2-3x the price. This hands down is the best one.  I was actually considering it for myself when it was first listed. I’d stay away from the other oviraptor eggs you posted.
