I found my first phyllocarid carapace :)

I went back to Deep Springs rd last weekend. It was my 2nd time there. I couldn’t sit around on my Saturday off and do nothing lol. Fishing season doesn’t start till April 1st so March puts me in this odd limbo of waiting for the fun to begin. Now that I know how to get to DSR no problem and I live so close I will probably visit several times this year. It’s a really fun site for diversity. I want to see how much I can find and catalogue. Perhaps in the future I will make a little personal reference guide for DSR

Anyway. Pretty sure I found my first phyllocarid carapace this past weekend. It’s not much but I find it to be pretty cool. I have a phyllocarid mandible I found in the wanakah shale in Buffalo so it’s fun to try and find more of the animal.

This is the part and counterpart of the larger specimen. I only have a scale on 1 but they are the same specimen.

This is the smaller one I found with a scale.

I'd be back there in a minute if I lived closer. Nice finds, Al. This warmer weather is making me itch. :P  Maybe I'll go out in my yard today and split a few chunks I still have. You're doing really well there, Al.

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Congratulations on a nice haul. Looks like some Grammysia and Grammysoidea bivalves, Spinocyrtia and Rhipdomella brachiopods. You found some really nice goniatites- those are generally uncommon complete like that.

I know it's the fossil forum not the fishing forum haha, but what do you fish for? I feel ya here. Crappie will be crazy in no time here, but I do a lot of catfishing too. Either way you can fill your freezer in days here at Truman Lake. Love the partial and rough complete greenops. Keep at it, you'll find a great complete one soon.

Oneida lake smallmouth and largemouth bass are my main squeeze. But I’m going to be getting into some trout this April in Rome area on the Mohawk.

Don't forget West Canada Creek! I haven't fished it yet but I hear that it is a great trout fishery. And if the fish aren't  biting you can hunt for Herkimer Diamonds instead!:D

Awesome. Ive never fished for trout myself, i hear it's tasty though when cooked right. We have our fair share of bass here also but I don't prefer the taste to other catches. Post a pic if you get a big ol trout for me!
