Yes, Sara and I have mostly just been drinking wine since she arrived as it has been too cold to go out and fossil hunt. She is helping me put together my secret Santa package as well. :)

We all missing Sara so if possible let us see what she has been up to this Christmas. Cheers Bobby

Sorry for the delay. I promise to get Sara out on a fossil hunt ASAP in the new year!

In the meantime you could show her around your collection and share that with us, couldn't you?

I wish I could but I am currently over 3000 miles away from my collection and Sara (who is looking through the collection and guarding it for me.) I will post some recent pics of other natural history items from my trip as a consolation. Guess where I am.20211225_160819.thumb.jpg.b3c79b959700d075e1c702a4798014ca.jpg20211225_155354.thumb.jpg.c1bb9ab91ebc49ac33c24527c34707c3.jpg20211225_150512.thumb.jpg.7ea4218180550a8f194f0bb71a874428.jpg20211224_090402.thumb.jpg.251eb02b2ee6b51da3fc269e3a51dd4e.jpg20211224_085039.thumb.jpg.7a7ad72ba98222997254b70fbd5a7e8f.jpg

Yup. See the Ewoks? When I sent that post I had actually already driven to Florence, Oregon famous site of the whale mishap 50 years ago. If you don't know, just Google " exploding whale" and watch the video.

Pretty sure you are right. They filmed a lot of Endor in that forest. Love the Redwoods!

Hi guys, I am not dead! I took Sara out for an outing, a whole week long, the last week in February. We scouted out some fossils and planned to go back to collect the next day, but several inches of snow prevented that. It snowed at least 3 times that week:shakehead: Sara was saddened that one of the fossils she traveled with met  with some damage in transport. I think I will select this as the fossil to keep because I think it can still be repaired, but if I ship it again in pieces I doubt it will ever come back together.

Sara enjoyed seeing one of my larger fossils (but not the largest) that doubles as a table. It is a slab of Indonesian petrified wood that I couldn't resist bringing back from Bali.

Sara met up with some old friends that Doren sent me years ago. They frolicked together for hours!

20220213_163512.thumb.jpg.7b7e1f71dbfc0c56016e2c266bbffbc5.jpg

Later, Sara looked at a small part of my fossil collection

20220213_163629.thumb.jpg.f211770a45ed04419d866911dc85ce91.jpg

She even explored some of my Riker mounts...

20220213_163845.thumb.jpg.36fe22d70ff616b6c7499b984611e065.jpg

She even examined my entire sphere collection. Mostly rock spheres and eggs.

20220213_164415.thumb.jpg.1cf9a1d8600e9addd4eafe77a39d9275.jpg

Of course she was willing to look at some of my mineral collection too. Her favorite was this cavansite.

20220213_164332.thumb.jpg.eea430598817217d560228efdcc74304.jpg

So I showed her some other blue minerals such as azurite, and this sodalite

I think her favorite color might be blue. Anyway, later she got into one of my trilobite drawers.

I will try to show more tomorrow.

@Scylla I think it is time for Sara to pack her bags and restart her grand tour after her winter’s brake. You got  some nice fossils BTW, Crystal and artefacts . Cheers Bobby

The azurite is a mineral which have one of the most beautiful color.

Less than you would think. We had it shipped by ship so it was by volume, not weight, about $300 to $400 per cubic meter if I remember correctly.

Well Today was the big day. I made it back to Binghamton with Sara and I was  finally going to fossil hunt with her. I am not 100% sure of the geology of the site, but it appears to be an upper Devonian siltstone with lots of plant debris in some layers. As we got to the site (that got snowed out 3 times before) we noticed something coming down from the sky. Maybe you can figure out what it is from the picture. Also in the picture is one of the larger pieces of plant material we found.

20220327_155956.thumb.jpg.d11b2ba1c88807fd68db50b36c9fcc76.jpg

Sara seemed particularly interested in plants, maybe she was just hungry.

20220327_155938.thumb.jpg.9d9f1138d7bfb52385fbb6e0c5516b38.jpg

Here is an even larger one:

20220327_160059.thumb.jpg.93563395695bf51aad1db8471defd747.jpg

The snow kept coming, but melting fast enough that we could still hunt. We also found a few glacial cobbles with marine fossils in them.

20220327_160140.thumb.jpg.afbef853b13de1bd770ebc2563c280d1.jpg

This one seems to have an interface between the siltstone and a marine layer with the siltstone portion on the bottom in the picture.

20220327_160147.thumb.jpg.9f43d84cafde5090b86e4b6d1918f489.jpg

That brought our hunt to an end. We were so relieved we could finally get out and find some fossils! I will pack Sara up and send her on to the next stop on her journey soon.
