Coco
After this, she wanted to see my recent shells collection. So I took out some boxes of the most common species visible on our Atlantic coasts. Calliostoma zizyphinum - Trochidae / Calliostomatinae Gibbula magus - Trochidae / Gibbulinae Hexaplex trunculus - Muricidae / Muricinae (This shell secretes a mucus that allows to obtain the color purple amethyst, a blue violet dye). Nucella lapilus - Muricidae (You can see in the 4th row on the right and in the 5th row on the left some specimens with wavy decorations on their shells. It depends on where they are found - probably on the rocks more beaten by the waves). Sara has already asked me to show her how I sort my Redonian sediment (Pliocene basal), and she wants to see what species I find there. I answered OK, but I don’t know how to identify these shells... Maybe she’ll give me some names ! See you later ! Tonight’s the party ! Coco
I haven’t yet shown you the latest shells I’ve taken out for Sara. So here they are. Phenacovolva brevirostris - Ovulidae / Ovulinae - a genus I particularly like Tritia neritea (ex Cyclope neritea) - Nassariidae / Nassariinae - I only found them in one place, on the shores of a French island. Epitonium clathrus - Epitonnidae - A genus I love a lot too, unfortunately I only found this species. Tritia reticulatus (ex Nassarius reticulatus) - Nassariidae / Nassariinae - I’m going to have to redo a number of labels because I realize in my post that the genus name has changed ! I am adding here a pic which was with my Calliostoma zizyphinum, but which seems different to me. I will also put it in identification... That's all for today ! Coco
Hi, Sara is still at home, I haven’t had time to show her everything she wants to see. She’s a curious one ! And I have to find the list of people she has to go to, besides, the last time I consulted her there were not many people behind me, let’s hope that it grew. Caverat
Coco, I think that I’m the next person to receive Sara, unless some of the people who didn’t respond earlier are now involved again. When you are ready, message Caverat.

Coco
Hi, OK @Caverat I thought that keeping Sara longer would not hinder the proper functioning, since there are not many people on the list. I think we have to keep the order. If people were to receive Sara and didn’t follow up, maybe it’s members who are no longer on the forum, or it wasn’t the right time for them, so they can get back on the list if they want. Let us remember that this idea was launched by Caldigger, and that making Sara’s journey last is a tribute to him. Those who followed Sara’s adventures and who would not have welcomed her home can put themselves on the list, here is : https://flask.io/Vo8Y4p1Bspho Question : if the list does not grow, would it pose a theoretical problem if Sara visited her hosts a second time if they would like to receive her a second time ? Maybe Sara will want to come to practice at the stadium with me on next tuesday, stay tuned ! Coco
Hi, When I’m not home and Sara’s resting on her own, I let her look in my drawers. A few days ago, she wanted us to look at my current shells again because she saw some weird ones for her, she wanted me to comment a bit. So what would we not do to please her ! Let's go ! Lepas anatifera It is a cirripd whose triangular and flattened carapace, reaches 5 cm long. It is composed of 5 smooth, bluish-white plates, underlined on the edge of an orange border. The plates open in the upper part like the two valves of a bivalve which allows the cirres, sort of small pinnate feathers, to unfold and catch the plankton from which the animal feeds. Pollicipes pollicipes The East Atlantic Foot is a species of short-stemmed marine cirripd crustaceans that is attached to the rocks beaten by the waves. Its range is limited to the intertidal zone along the Atlantic coast of Europe and North Africa. Sometimes also wrongly called «anatife», it is then confused with the real anatifes that belong to the genus Lepas and live attached to floating objects. Mimachlamys varia Mimachlamys varia varia (I can’t tell the difference from the one before...) Talochlamys pusio Anomia ephippium It is a species of bivalve belonging to the family Anomiidae. Distribution A. ephippium is found primarily in sheltered conditions in the low intertidal and sublittoral zones. They are distributed along coasts around the world. Spondylus gaederopus Spondylus sp. Antalis aequicostata And now something that Sara found strange because she had never seen this ! Recent fish otoliths. Each species has its form. In my boxes, I have almost nothing but sea fish otolites. I was thinking that this thread was started by our good buddy the late Doren in March 2019, and his wish was that each person who had room in their life to accommodate her could enjoy a visit from 'Sara the World Traveller'. If he were still around today he'd no doubt be amazed that his wish has been upheld by the TFF community, and that the members of the forum can continue to enjoy seeing the threads from all of her adventures past and yet to come. Great work everyone an in the spirit of Doren's memory let’s keep her passport going. Cheers Bobby Edited April 22, 2023 by Bobby Rico 2
Tidgy's Dad
Coco, my friend, I love those pictures of Sara with the bivalves and I've always had a real soft spot for scaphopods. Beautiful. But I do feel it is time that Sara moved on to pastures new. 1 3 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Coco
Hi, To tell the truth, I still have a lot to share with Sara, but we were shocked by a comment here (which was also removed quite quickly) and we stopped taking pictures. But Sara keeps looking in my drawers. I had a lot of discussions with Sara, and she noticed that for a long time readers have not even posted reactions other than thumbs up or other emoticons, and she would have liked to have had text to read. That said, Sara is not lost. After her visit here, few people are willing to welcome her. So she fears for her international adventure... So she is not in a hurry to leave. In addition, for a few weeks and for a few more to come, I am very busy and I do not have time to prepare his trip to the United States at his next host. We both talk about it, I’m trying to get her back on the road. We’ll try to finalize her departure for may. Yes great glad you will be on onboard Sophie and I know will come up with a creative idea . Sara comes to the end of her travels hopefully when every active member on the list has shared some memorable experiences with Sara and written in her travel log . We should celebrate, We should celebrate the members and their familys and cultures Sara was briefly part of, the fossil collection she studied , the museum she visited and fossils hunts she went on. All of that which was shared joyfully here on TFF, showing great camaraderie . Our Doren cast Sara benevolently into the TFF pond and the ripples went worldwide many, many times. This thread should stay as a tribute to Doren's kindness something I have personally experienced. I feel it will be a beautiful moment when ever Sara reaches her final leg of her world tour. That’s Doren’s wish completed graciously. I have an idea that could be a fantastic tribute to all of this, to us all , Sara and especially to Doren but it take some work and I am not sure it is possible yet . As you know after Doren sadly passed this thread became more poignant in its standing because of grief TFF shared . I hope other members also will have many really fun tributes that could be posted here after her last visit summing up this thread on a real high it deserves. Please please TFF Let’s keep Sara traveling until the last bus stop and then let’s end this thread with a Big Bang - party time .
