dsludden
Good morning, I am requesting help with ID on a bone I found in the Neuse River in Craven County in eastern NC NC. I have searched google but not able to find a bone of this shape. It measures 2 inches by 2.5 inches. What throws me is the twist in the bone, probably a result of excessive wearing in the River. Thank you
Plax
The twist is real. If it was worn into that shape you'd see the pores instead of smooth bone.

dsludden
Probably more of a shot in the dark guess verse an educated guess but I want to try out all that I have learned over the last year or so... Since the twist is more natural verse river worn, I want to call this an astragalus of some smaller to medium sized Pleistocene Epoch animal ( could be on younger end of time scale). Anyone want to confirm or decline my assessment?
ynot
My first thought was for ankle/wrist bone. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."
