Fossil hunting Isle Of Wight

Today I went to Compton Bay, Isle of wight. By the time I got there I only had an hour before a storm stopped me. I found a large 23cm section of fossilised wood with some pyrite covering it.

Very cool! Have you had any luck preserving wood like this against further deterioration? I've tried a lot of  different things but mine has all turned to dust..

I have heard of this but I've a few bits wood before that didn't turn to dust but I can't remember what I did with them. I just hope this one won't end up bad.
