I think they may be transections of helispiral gastropods. (tall snails cut in two) :)

This spiral around an axis is what I find to be the best indication. The best way to explain why I went with the ID on such scant evidence is that I can't really find a contraindication to it. 

I found a bunch of these in lower Devonian rocks last fall. Unfortunately the best examples are somewhere in my yard, hidden still under three feet of snow.
