Searching for trilobites in Tully, NY

Last Saturday (April 6^th, 2019) my wife and I made our second trip to Tully, NY to search for trilobite fossils. Unfortunately this was the second time I was unable to find a complete trilobite; I'll keep searching for them in other locations. I did find some other fossils that I thought were interesting enough to keep.

 

The first photo is of the hill in Tully that I searched. On our first trip I tried to cover the entire hill while we were there, on our second trip I concentrated on smaller areas and had better results with finding fossils.

 

 

A gastropod fossil which is next to another fossil that is round, flat and has a spiral pattern that is difficult to see in the photo.

 

 

I found many brachiopods and some bivalves.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the longest crinoid stem that I've found so far at Tully, it is about 1^3/4 inches in length.

 

 

I'm guessing this is another crinoid stem. It has a much larger diameter than the other crinoid stems that I've found and it has "spikes".

 

 

And two very small pieces of fossil from trilobites, which I was happy to find even though they are not complete.

Nice Greenops sp. bits. From what I understand, complete trilos at the Tully site are few and far between. 
Head north, to the DSR site.

Hello from Liverpool N.Y. As Tim has already said complete trilos from that particular site are rare. I have hunted there a few times and have only came away with partials. There are some secret spots somewhere in Tully, but I am not privy to that info. There are better spots out in Madison County.

Congratulations. Some nice finds there. The Rhinocarid is uncommon. The goniatite is cool also. As far as I can tell most of the brachiopods are Mucrospirifer mucronatus. I also see some Devonchonetes in the third photo.

Very nice finds! Like Dave said check out Madison county. It’s very good! Great photos by the way  I wish mine were as clear my lighting isn’t great in my place

Thank you, Al Tahan. I bought this light from Amazon to help me see the fossils I've collected. The circular LED lighting seems to do a nice job illuminating the fossils to photograph them.

 

I almost forgot to mention: It looks like we will be going to Deep Springs Road tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion, everyone .

Very Nice finds overall! The brachiopod plates are very nice. Too bad about the trilobites, but those pieces of Pygidium are pretty cool!

 

This Mucrospirifer is very intriguing as it looks like it has some epibiont encrusters! I am not entirely able to tell from the picture, but it looks like they are some sort of sponge. Anyone else have any ideas?

DSR is smaller, but has more density and variety of finds, it would seem.  

 

BTW, I am jealous of your proximity to that site!

My wife and I went to DSR this past Saturday and found a few trilobite pieces but nothing was complete. It was worth taking the trip and I will probably post some photos of the fossils we found soon.
