tracer
ok, it's definitely bone, and definitely well mineralized. cool colors. but i'm not sure that it's a vert at all, and it doesn't match any gator verts i have or have seen. the "canal" doesn't actually seem to be a neural canal - it might just be where cancellous bone eroded out of the center of cortical bone. one interesting thing, to me, is in the second picture at the top. just to the right of the "hole" in the bone, is a linear, vertical strip of bone that seems to have the grain running across the rest of the bone, as if it's a piece from another bone fused or mineralized onto the main bone. the whole thing seems to have been substantially altered by the environment and i'm not sure enough original morphology remains for you to get a good id on it. regards, t
