jalittle92
So I found a turtle fossil and just want to know a little more about it and the rock inside it. Edited April 23, 2019 by jalittle92
abyssunder
Welcome to the Forum! I think, it's better to call it a septarian nodule / concretion. 2 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Notidanodon
It does look like a turtle but I agree with septarian nodule

jalittle92
Would this be considered a really rare find lol I know absolutely nothing about this kind of stuff. Just curious before I let my 5 year old son run off with it. Is it worth getting polished and putting it up for safe keeping.
digit
Not particularly uncommon form of a concretion. Some agatized forms can be quite lovely when polished. I don't see the potential for polishing in your specimen but it is a cool rock nonetheless. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concretion#Septarian_concretions Welcome to the forum. Lots of good information here. Do a search for concretion or septarian here and you'll find others who have been drawn here with similar finds. Interesting fossils can be found in Texas so if you have an interest in such things, there is good info here and great members from your state on the forum. Cheers. -Ken

abyssunder
Your son, at his age, has a good perception. For more information, please consult this thread.
