worthy 55
Sundancer73 and I went to the Santa Fe looking for some good places to dive. In one spot I found these two interesting pieces. Any Idea on what they are? Sorry about the pictures I'll try to get better ones later. It's my bone!!!

Auspex
Good pics; not bird. As alluded in the other thread, maybe a tusk? Harry Pristis
It looks to me like an unerupted canine -- the dentin is incomplete. The only thing I can think of with enamel in that pattern is suid or tayassuid. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Boesse
I was going to suggest perhaps a tooth from a kogiine sperm whale (which *can* have enamel, in basal taxa), but the tooth looks laterally compressed. It does look to have longitudinal grooves as well as 'growth rings', typical of some sperm whale teeth, and it is narrow and highly curved, but given the apparent presence of enamel and lateral compression, I'll tend to lean towards Harry's ID.
