Petrified Mushroom ID and Value

I was hiking in the smoky mountains in NC near Maggie valley when I came across this, what I thought to be a petrified mushroom. It seems to be pretty since I very rarely see mushrooms up in the Smokies

It looks modern, to me. :)

Sorry if I sound dumb, but when you say it’s modern does that mean it’s not petrified

Yes.

It grew on a tree within the last year.

Value? To me? Toss it in my composter to benefit my garden. As noted  appraisals are not done here but I will say this; It's like Antiques Roadshow, it's one thing to declare "this Queen Anne end table is valued at 50K dollars".

Quite another to get 50K in your hands. Very subjective.

Bottom line? Anything is worth what you can get for it.

Being this dark, I'd give it a couple years at least. These things are pretty tough.
