Tail Section?

Hi, just found this great site. Just getting back into fossil hunting after many years away from it. Wonder if anyone can help identify this scaled section of tail ? Which I found at Folkestone in the Gault clay deposits.

Thanks for any info in advance.

Your 3rd picture looks almost like a fish skull, to me.

This is a confusing looking piece.   :headscratch:

I thought that looked like bone.

Definitely not a fish skull, the scales are kinda petal shaped like a reptile tail crocodile ? I have added a few more images. It also seems to have a ligament running through the middle which is protruding.

Sorry but I'm less convinced that it's even a fossil. I have no experience with reptile scales though.

I don't see any mention of reptile fossils at Folkestone in a quick Google search.

I do see fish and crabs mentioned, however.

Thanks for all the interest guys :) I don't think it is a crab or lobster as I have found a few of those and this looks very different it seems as though it was articulated.

It looks like a partial interior mould of a nautiloid. They can be that colour from Folkstone.

Second photo being the transverse view of a chamber, with the small circle being the siphuncle. (Coincidentally, Eutrephoceras is actually one you get at Folkstone, though I was only looking for a generalised image of these views. This just happened to be in the Treatise.)

I have a few more items I have no idea about , this being one of them. A friend gave this to me he worked for a dredging company in the 90's working in the North sea and this came up any ideas ? Mat

An ironstone concretion I think, they often have a cracked shrinkage coating like that. A neat example. :)

The last one looks like the so called "crocodile skin" concretion, so it might be that. :)

Hi there, I was given this by a friend who worked for a dredging company during the 90's and this came up from the bed of the North sea. I have no idea what it is or even if it is a fossil ? Interesting item though ! Any help on ID appreciated. Thanks Mat

Sorry but have you not already posted this and got an ID? :zzzzscratchchin:

I did ask for more pictures,

Still think it is a concretion.

Hi Tony

Sorry it was a different thread that I commented on, now it has been merged back into the original post.  I also think it is a concretion and quiet interesting one too. Bobby
