Quick North Texas neighborhood trip

Coming home from a meeting on Saturday I stopped by a planned future addition in my friends neighborhood. I only had about 20 minutes and wasn’t too high on the prospects of the spot, so I thought at the very least it would be a nice hike in nature.

Well this turned out to be a very fruitful 20 minutes. I found my first ever shark teeth not in a creek or near a lake, just right out in an open field. I knew they were out there somewhere, but they just always seem to be wherever I’m not lol.

Actually worked out quite well too. I’ve been needing an extra Cretalamna tooth (first photo) for my shark tooth display I use in my program. And who would have guessed that I’d actually find one. Now maybe next time I’ll find a big ol Cretoxyrhina waiting out there for me next time haha.

Made a second trip with the family in tow this evening. Supposed to rain the next few days so wanted to get out there once more. No Cretoxyrhina sadly @fossilsonwheels but found another nice Cretodus just as we were about to pack up. 2 in about an hour of work this time.

But the real win is that my wife actually got quite excited about going fossil hunting and really seems to enjoy it now.

Thanks for the kind words. Always glad to hear people like the in situ pics. Hard to not  forget and just pick up the giant tooth you found haha.

Lovely shark teeth! Is this the Arcadia Park Formation?

Not sure of formation myself. It has Neithia in lower left and Texigryphea.

Looks like leptostaryx sharks teeth for the larger ones. maybe Grayson formation/ Pawpaw?

From what I can tell all the teeth (except for the one missing the root) belonged to a Mr. Cretodus crassidens. I wish it were Leptostyrax, but it’s not.

This formation is Mainstreet/Grayson undivided
