NJ Well Preserved Turtle Peripheral

The Jersey Devil

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I got this interesting peripheral turtle shell from the Late Campanian Wenonah formation of NJ. It is not reworked and seems to be IDable. It also has some interesting shark predation marks on the top of the first pic. It is about 2.75” X 2.25”

Thanks for any help!

Nifty piece.  The only other place that I've seen that level of original preservation (i.e., not phosphatized) in turtle shell in NJ is the Sewell Pit.

I'd be curious to ID.

From what I heard, I don't think it can be 100% identified but is probably C.Atlantica (I think there are a few similar turtles).
