Man what a beauty!!! One thing though... are you sure that the spelling is correct? I tried googling 'Margaritaria' and I only come up with plants Anyways, your other finds are incredible too! Wow! Congrats on a really successful hunt! Yes it is correct. Look up "Pliocene Molluscs From The Yorktown and Chowan river Formations of Virginia" Lyle Campbell 1992. Also typed in a google search for Margaritaria abrupta and got lots of hits. 1 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022
Darktooth
Some truly great finds that you have there! The echphora is exquisite and the Great White not to shabby either. The GW that your friend found is killer! Thanks for sharing with us. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

Ah yeah I see it now. Good paper. It's weird, when I type in 'Margaritaria abrupta', or 'margaritaria', or 'margaritaria bivalve' I barely get any pictures... I saw the links too, but I wanted to see some photos to look at other specimens of the species. I only see good photos of one other specimen, also posted here on TFF and found by user AshHendrick. Yes Ash has a very nice double valve one. It is a very uncommon species. Plantguy
Man enjoyed seeing that measly one for sure! The Ecphora is stunning and the other bivalves/gastros are wonderful as well. Interesting to see both the differences and similarity to the Tamiami Fm fauna that we poke around in down here. Congrats! Regards, Chris
sixgill pete
Chris, I agree the similarities between the two faunas are very cool. Over the last few years I have become more and more fond of Molluscan fauna. Maybe one day I can make it down there for some collecting. ClearLake
Just saw this thread and have to add my appreciation of that Ecophora, Margaritaria abrupta, and the other mollusks. Those are spectacular! I look forward to hitting that area again sometime and do a little more than beach hunting (which was fun), hopefully I won’t show up so soon after a hurricane makes a lot of sites inaccessible.
