This is a stream tumbled piece so any evidence of a surface feature like "slickensides" would have been erased. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Wood is fairly common at that site, but it looks nothing like that. It has a black, carbonized, appearance. It seems unlikely that wood preserved in such a different manner would be found there. My understanding of "slickensides" is that they are markings left on the surface of rocks as they are sliding past each other under pressure. They are a surface feature of this movement, like the marks left by a file.
