monkey puzzle ship worms

The tag on the box that I picked this out of (silver pick) identified it as, you guessed it, petrified monkeypuzzle wood with shipworm borings.

The ID seems right but it's such a beautiful piece I wondered if anyone has any further thoughts.

Peanuts made of algae that grew on trees in the ocean. Fascinating.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
