matty34
Found these fossils at a construction site in Venice Florida. Can I get some help identifying? It would be much appreciated. As a side note I found the huge Megalodon there as well. I think one is an alligator scale? One is a joint of some sort? And one is the tail bone of a dugong? And one is a jawbone with teeth ( feline )? What say all? thanks in advance
Macrophyseter
Wow, what a score for a construction site 1 If you're a fossil nut from Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, or Torrance, feel free to shoot me a PM!
ynot
I will take a shot. First is an ankle bone, maybe bovid. Second is a racoon jaw, Alligator/crocodile scute (they do not have "scales"). No idea on the last piece, maybe non biologic concretion. 2 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." matty34
@Macrophyseter yeah. I was very impressed with the dig. The Megalodon was found about a week earlier in the same site after a rain.
matty34
@MacrophyseterI find a lot around here. I put most of the smaller sharks teeth and the broken ones in my fish tank. But lots of vertebrae all the time.
caldigger
Poor fish, you probably give them nightmares with those teeth!

Modern raccoons go back to mid or late miocene, so it could be an old piece. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." abyssunder
The last item in question is very interesting, especially considering there are encrusters on the surface, like ? barnacles. If that's the case, the specimen comes from a marine environment. Could you post higher resolution photos of the specimen? 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. abyssunder
Thank you! Good enough photos for say barnacle attachment scars. That is bone.
