Rowboater
High water (east wind pushing salt water up the river) but fairly clear. Spent a few hours starting at low tide. Not much debris on the beach, guessing stuff was sand covered. Used a lot of bug spray, but bright sun and a light west breeze kept the no-seeums away. My luck continues the same; decent yellow mako, but broken. A small prettier mako. Bunch of triangular grey shark, bunch of sand tiger spikes (did find an interesting pottery shard and some weird drift wood). Actually ended up with over twice as many teeth as I thought, but no shrimp coprolites or even batoid stuff. Nice day and a bit of exercise. Fun watching the ospreys (getting to be friction between them and the eagles).Need to find some cowshark teeth.

Darktooth
Nice finds, What is the best tooth that you have ever found from that locale? I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

I_gotta_rock
Where is this beach? I refuse to give up my childish wonder at the world.
Rowboater
@Fossildude19 @caldigger Thanks for stopping by! Size and variety hasn't been special but more variations in color than usual lately. @Darktooth this year I have found one (almost) perfect cowshark tooth there, most exciting! 30 years ago I found a huge mako; I didn't know what it was but the people I was with told me and said it was by far the biggest they had ever seen. Today a 2'er is a great one. The beach has deteriorated. An old timer told me that the banks there used to be three times as high and he thought that's where all the teeth were coming from. People still look, but there are much better places (just more and more being rip rapped over to protect from erosion). @I_gotta_rock this beach is close by and i'm familiar with it, has lots of shells but less metal pieces which can look like teeth. There are small beaches (many private, but you can search legally at low tide (officially below mean low tide) in most of the Rappahannock (Virginia); maybe one in four is known to have shark teeth, often associated with high banks. The locals are very protective of the info! I think the Potomac is very similar or better, and there are favorite spots on the York and James rivers as well.. It used to be a children's hobby, now particularly retirees are out looking, many also have metal detectors.
