Peace River, Florida Tooth?

Recommended Posts

I found what looks like a tooth in the Peace River near Arcadia, Florida. Any idea what it came from?

I agree . . . it's a senile upper bison tooth

Nice find! Bison are a lot less common than horse in the Peace River. BTW: The term "senile" in Harry's comment above just means that it is from an old individual as evidenced by the very worn down occlusal (chewing) surface--has nothing to do with the mental capacity of the tooth. :P

Welcome to the forum--what a great fossil to lead off with. :)

Cheers.

Thanks everyone! I'm so excited to have found this forum. Very interesting way to spend an evening. Thanks, Ken, for clarifying. The language is definitely over my head sometimes...but I'll get there.

You'll find this forum an excellent place to soak up all sorts of great fossil information. Before long you'll be passing that along to others. ;)

Cheers.
