Fossil sites

I am retired military, my wife is a career school teacher, and my son wants to be a paleontologist when grows up. I'm looking for a location that we can turn into a weekend "working" vacation and find some fossils. Not looking to find anything huge or an unknown, just something like sharks teeth. Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

This is good for starters. https://www.georgiasfossils.com/ Don't know which town you're near. Georgia has a good assortment of fossil types and locations to find them.

Geological maps are available from state and federal sources. Plat maps are available from the county, and are helpful in determining if the land you plan to search is privately owned. ALWAYS get permission!

In addition, the "Fossil sites" topic on this forum should be quite helpful. Read it and the neighboring states.

Don't forget to have fun as you learn.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
