Rorithekitten
Greetings! I’ve been trying to determine if these are teeth I’ve found at the beach or some piece of fish skeleton. They were found both among the shells and while snorkeling in the Indian Rocks Beach area outside Tampa. Some smaller as well, found about a dozen all together, after much searching there last week. Many thanks for your suggestions! Cathy
Fossildude19
These are mouth parts from Echinoids or sand dollars. When they are together they form what is called Aristotle's lantern. Also, probably modern, rather than fossil. They are sometimes called Sand Dollar doves, due to their shape. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." ynot
Yea, what Tim said. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Rorithekitten
Thank you for that info Tim, I am happy to know what they are and I had fun looking for them! 2 yrs ago we found lots of shark teeth there just after a storm turned the bottom. But these guys were hard to find and I enjoyed my search. Thanks again!
