FLfossils
I thought I’d share my recent experience with Indonesian megalodon teeth. I couldn’t find much information on them or many who had bought them, so hopefully this post will help the next person. I initially ordered the tooth through a seller from Indonesia on Instagram using PayPal. The pictures where a little grainy but the price seemed too good to pass up. After a month of waiting it did actually show up:
caldigger
Looks like you got a nice one. Just how big is this puppy?
FLfossils
It was clear it had been repaired despite what the seller said. After a brief soak in acetone, this is what was left: While it wasn’t the deal I was hoping for, most of the tooth was real, has good coloration, and nice addition to my collection. I’ll definitely be more cautious in the future though.

caldigger
Ah, now I see the "ol' sand and glue disguise". I guess next time we need to ask for clearer pictures before the purchase.
Miocene_Mason
Well at least you actually got the meg, and it was not too incomplete. That is, of course, assuming you didn’t pay a price more suitable for a complete one. “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
Mark Kmiecik
Was it advertised as repaired or restored? Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

bcfossilcollector
Nice tooth nonetheless! You do not see many Meg teeth from that part of the world and most are incomplete. Good acquisition. jihia
May I know will soaking in acetone damage any nature of original fossil?

Nope, it’ll just dissolve whatever paint or glue that was used to repair it
jihia
Thank you for your reply. I got a tooth similar to yours, even the way how it was restored
Boesse
I am waiting with baited breath for the first marine mammal 'bonebed specimens' (e.g. earbones, limb bone frags) to come out of these deposits: we don't have any western tropical Pacific marine mammal fossil sites between Taiwan and southern Australia.
