Geauxswin
Found this fossil yesterday on a sandbar in the Colorado River in Columbus, Texas. Can anyone help me identify it? Thank you!
kate_rose
From the top picture it looks like an ammonite which I know occur down on the Colorado but the detailed pic makes me think not.
Geauxswin
It honestly looks like a pineapple. There are sections attached to a solid base. The clusters are either diamond shaped or rosettes. I can't find anything similar other than coral, but nothing matches those pictures or drawings either.
rfarrar
Looks like a piece of a cycadeoid trunk, with buds, to me. Bob

Geauxswin
Thank you for the confirmation. I've found other fossils on the river but nothing as large or interesting. I was incredibly excited to find it. Wishing I had taken more geology classes in college! Thanks for your help!
