Fossil pearl? Prob not...

I know this is not very likely, but why not ask. I have been emboldened by a post from a long time ago from @frankh8147.  I am basing the question only on the spherical shape and the fact that it is embedded in hard matrix, along with shark teeth and fish parts.  It seems like a lot of them are darker, such as Frank’s possible pearl.

Found at bottom of the Eagle Ford, top of the Woodbine, so  Cenomanian to Turonian in age.

Scale at the top of second pic in mm.  If not a pearl, any guesses what it would be?  Not a lot of round stuff that I have seen, and still want to know.

I know that fossil pearls are found in the Kamp Ranch Formation of the Eagle Ford Group. Could it be from that carbonate formation? Do you see any inoceramid (the pearl producers) fragments with carbonate prisms. Also, does the round object and/or the matrix fizz in acid? A pearl should fizz in acid.

Consider showing it to Virginia Freedman, a Dallas Paleontological Society Member. She has studied them. They occur in the Britton, Arcadia Park and Kamp Ranch Formations.

See: https://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2004AM/finalprogram/abstract_75787.htm

So see old TFF post:

My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.

This should be from Britton and not Kamp Ranch.  I do see plenty of inoceramid fragments.  The matrix does fizz with vinegar (all I had) it looks like the round object is not fizzing in vinegar.

I may have to see if I can make it to a DPS meeting.

You should try to make one of those DPS meetings! I'm not sure but I'm betting it actually is a fossil pearl..
