LordTrilobite
Looks like a rhino cervical vertebra. Somewhere from the back of the neck. Some reference from my collection. 5 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
cat320
Thank you for your reply. I was not 100% sure if this was from a bison or woolly rhino as they both look very similar as I am a novice.
LordTrilobite
Yes they can look a bit similar. But the two holes on the sides are smaller on bovids, the centrum is more slender in general. And the process you have on the bottom side where one of the two is broken off, rhinos have sort of wings like you have on your specimen but bovids have those split in two separate processes. 3 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
cat320
I understand. I know what to look for now, if I am fortunate enough to find another one.
sjaak
Not sure, my first impression is bovine. It does not really fit with Olof's example in my opinion. You have more pictures?
cat320
Hi, this is a side view. I hope this helps.
LordTrilobite
More woolly rhino reference. Cervicals 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 are visible in this photo. Vertebra 4 or 5 seems to be the best fit. The proportions don't fit bovid imo. 3 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
cat320
I see what you mean. The bovid vertebrae also look smaller too on other images that I have seen compared to the woolly rhino vertebrae.
