KOI
Hi! Here is a trip report on visiting a locality near Carlin, Nevada (one of our early videos). I'm not sure if what we decided to call "octopus beaks" (see 1:44 and image attached) are the real thing and not just fragments of brachiopods. Perhaps, somebody more knowledgeable can weigh in with the right answer. Thanks in advance!
TqB
Can we see photos from different angles on the possible beaks? They're the right sort of shape for Rhyncholites but Carboniferous ones are hyper-rare. The ornament on the bottom one looks suspicious and it does have a brachiopod vibe! Perhaps someone knows a matching brachiopod. (If they are Rhyncholites, they'd most likely be from shelled cephalopods (so nautiloids and ammonoids). Octopods hadn't got going then, and there aren't many other definite coleoids things either.) 1 Tarquin
JimB88
Those look like brachiopod bits to me
KOI
Hi! Thanks for replies. They are highly appreciated. I'm attaching new images. I know that the quality may not be good enough but this is what I was able to get so far.
TqB
I'm pretty sure those are shelly, probably brachiopod. Not sure what though! 1 Tarquin
