The articles do not mention any ability for the public to collect anything.  They only talk about tours.  Sounds to me like a "look but don't touch" situation.

The fossil feather article says:

" In any case, collection of fossils will continue, likely through the use of day-permits with oversight to ensure significant fossil finds make there way to museums."

I hope it's not a look-but-don't-touch situation.

Hmm, I guess if they're expecting anything like the 100 000 annual visitors that John Day Fossil Beds get, then they're going to have to severely restrict public collecting, at some point.

Having been there to collect twice, I wouldn't bother going back if it's only a look-and-learn.
