Today I have the very good fortune to showcase a third new trilobite named in my honor: Heliopeltis morrisoni.  This super spiny scutelluid comes from the lower Devonian of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, courtesy of Martin Basse et al. 2019.  Formerly classified as Andegavia, this important discovery represents the first record of Heliopeltis outside of Morocco.  The opportunity to collaborate with so many extraordinary trilobite workers from around the world is already a great reward, this is just the icing on the cake.  We all stand on the shoulders of giants.

:yay-smiley-1:Congratulations! A truly spectacular find. Looks like very delicate little fellow. Don’t know how all their spines didn’t break off when they were alive!

Thanks!  The holotype from Germany is a cranidium.  Hopefully some more complete type material will be added in the near future.

Woohoo! Congrats! It would be an honor to have one trilobite names after me much less three! :notworthy:

Congrats... again!

How do these end up getting named after you - did you acquire the specimen somewhere, recognize it as something different than it was identified as, then submit it to the researcher who described it?

The eponymous trilobites are the result of ongoing collaboration and research assistance ... great kudos for many years compiling a massive index of trilobite literature.

I hope there will be others ...  I still need Silurian, Carboniferous, Permian to fill my dance card!  Carboniferous and Permian will be difficult, but I will keep trying! emo73.gif :P

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments! :fistbump:

I love your emojis, this one is wonderful! (though not quite as good as the trilobite)

But "Ta ta" means goodbye.:(

Just one 'Ta' for thank you. <_<

Topping stuff, though, can barely wait to see the next one named after you.:)
