Mark Kmiecik
I believe that's an ironstone nodule. I have found several in my search for MC fossils. Is it very heavy for its size? Mark. ynot
Very few terrestrial iron minerals are magnetic. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Nimravis
Tony @ynot may correct me on the terminology, but this is Pyrite, it is found all over the place near the area that you were at. I was just PM'ing Ken @digit on pyrite. If I can find a piece that I have that could be it's twin I will post after I get home from climbing.

Petrified means "turned to stone", since it was stone to start with it can not be petrified. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Nimravis
@Allenz , @ynot here are pieces of pyrite that I collected at Pit 11 near the Tipple Hill. Years ago I was able to pick up quite a few pieces each time I went. We would add one piece to each grab bag of fossils that we gave out to people that came on trips with us from Fossil Ridge Library.

I have found half of a dozen in 30 years of collecting that had interesting shapes and I picked up and kept in my collection. Mark.
