Thanks for the info. I'm hoping to make it back out to Montana next year to look for dino material. We had a lot of fun doing it 2 years ago, but didnt use much for tools except a screwdriver and brush. We didn't really excavate any major areas though, just looked for things sticking out.

Its fun if you can do it but try it with something other than a screwdriver  :)

I find lots of hadro teeth but my most interesting find of the trip is this tooth found in an Edmontosaurus bonebed.   The center ridge is S shaped and it has denticles around the perimeter of the crown.  This is not typical for Edmontosaur.   Pathologic, positional or different species?

Bird bones - one on the right looks like a femur with the curvature not visible in this view.  help on the other humerus?

What I enjoy best about collecting is you never know what you find.   Here is a very distal juvie caudal Edmontosaurus vertebra with a very unusual pathology.   Its missing the process and the nubs that remain are natural not broken, there is also a hole in the center that is about +3 mm deep.   So are we looking at a bite that destroyed the processes and created the hole?   Good to speculate....and very cool

Width is 1/2"

Are plant fossils also found in the same beds as the bones?

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Amazing haul, Frank! The theropod teeth look really nice :D

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Q. Where do dinosaurs study?

A. At Khaan Academy!...
