Manticocerasman
Update on the preps: the 2nd Crickites turned out to be a desaster to prep, while removing the matrix I found out that the whole shell was compressed and parts were crumbeling while prepping it. So in stead of throwing this one away I took it to work where they cut the specimen in two and pollished it. You can clearly see that the shell collapsed under the weight of the sediments, the champers are filled with broken parts of the septa and the whole shell is irregular in shape and preservation. after cutting the cephalopod: the finished parts: Detail on the collapsed chambers: growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional. Monica
Beautiful find, Natalie, and wonderful prep, Kevin, on that huge Crickites! And slicing and polishing that terrible-to-prep specimen in order to see the internal structure was a good idea - I think it looks great now!!!
