Fossils on a fishing trip

Greetings Folks!

While walking on rock Jetties on the Alabama Coast, I looked down and saw some Crinoids. So, of course, I quit fishing and started looking at rocks.

I came across many Crinoid fossils (and impressions). And some coral type fossils, so I am confident that these rocks could hold multiple species.

These were on large boulders lining an inlet to the gulf and I"m confident that they are not from South Alabama seashore. It was a drag that I could take

anything with me but photographs.

So the question is:

One thing I found that looked interesting were these impressions into the rocks. I have no idea what It may be.

Sorry about the low quality of the pictures. I was fishing at the time, and this was the best I could get with my phone.

Any thoughts from you guys what this could be, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for any thoughts relative to these guys.

Joe

These all look like trace fossils from sea worms or other invertebrates, to me.

I see things that may be trace fossils. Are there supposed to be crinoids in these pictures, because I am not seeing those?

Thanks for the replies. I didn't put the pictures of the crinoids because I knew what they were.

I enclosed the pictures above because I couldn't figure out what that was.

Any thoughts would be great

thanks.

I was thinking possibly a Crab.

What do you think of that?

Body fossil of a crab seems very unlikely to me. There are conditions in which the actual shell of an animal does not preserve, leaving a natural cast of the body. You would need a much clearer, and more complete, shape to be an indication of such a rare condition though.

Tiny crab burrows. :shrug:I guess it's not impossible. :)

Not a crab im afraid.  Looks can be deceiving but what Fossildude19 said about worm burrow is most likely what these are.  Keep looking though.  :)

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
