Pterygotus
Does anyone know what this is? It doesn’t look like a fossil and it looks like some sort of horn/antler section of a mammal. It’s about 7cm long. Thanks in advance.

caldigger
These all look like the same side of the item is represented. Is there a shot of the opposite side?
Mike from North Queensland
The second photo shows what looks to be a saw cut side so modern, so I would start looking at whats available at the butcher.

Ludwigia
I agree with Mike. Looks like dregs from the butcher. Did you fish it out of the bin at the back door? At least a location can help with identification. Stratigraphy is even better. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
I’ve just had a quick look at your local geology, although I myself am not at all familiar with the area, it is stated that deposits in the locality are Permian and Triassic. Found no mention of Cenozoic deposits, but maybe you know more about that than I do. Anyway, your bone does not look fossiliferous to me. 2 hours ago, Pterygotus said: Found in Taunton on a field 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. abyssunder
Pictures may not be conclusive, but is there any chance for flint/chert/silex like material? 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way.
