Well, I think it helps enough to say that I doubt more evidence would prove it to be a vertebra.

The second one looks like slag to me at this resolution.

Google "animal vertebrae" and look at all of the images. Then Google "fish vertebrae". You should notice similarities in many species and differences in others. How fish differ from reptile and amphibian and mammal, etc. Some paleontologists specialize in vertebrae and nothing else. It takes time, but if you see enough of them often enough you'll get to know them fairly well.
