Rockwood
Agreed. Mineral stains in worn cracks is what I see.
Plantguy
Nice rock!...it does have some interesting markings but I agree they appear to be mineral staining in cracks as Rockwood said and not ancient writings. I still would have picked it up to look at it closer. Got some nice smooth rounded edges so it was in the canyon for awhile being tumbled in the streambed. Looks like it may also have some interesting small holes/pores in it. Any chance you could wet it with water and take a sharp new photo? Might show the staining even better and how it follows along the cracks thruout the rock. Cool find. Regards, Chris
Mark Kmiecik
A photo of the other side and all the edges would be helpful too. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

fifbrindacier
I agree with the others, it's a rock with geological stains. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." Might be organic material or even 'just dirt' lol in there too. They're all darker, so they provide a stark contrast to the light-colored rock.
