Megalodon real or fake

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I would like to know if this megalodon tooth is real or fake.

My son says it's real due to all the damage on it, but I'm not so sure.

The Seller says it's 5 and a half inches long and say the bought it at an estate sale in Texas.

Thanks!

Yeah, definitely a real tooth with some serous enamel peel.  Usually you don't see too many 'fake' megalodon teeth.  That term is so loaded anyway, usually you are looking for restored /enhanced teeth which is not uncommon on the market, but usually for the time and effort the sellers are trying to increase the visual appeal of the tooth and its salability/value to potential customers.  This tooth doesn't have any of those problems.  haha.  :P

But seriously .. I start to get wary when I see rather large teeth that are near perfect.  Nice find ....

Cheers,

Brett

Looks real to me!

Like Brett said the enamel peel is very clear and usually fakers will not go out of there way to create a fake Meg tooth.

Overall that's a nice sized tooth!
