Huntonia
A while ago I bought this Gerastos trilobite from Morocco. It has strange minerals in the matrix. It has pockets of a green mineral that sort of glimmers in the light. It also has lines of a white mineral, which fluoresce under black light. If anyone has any idea what these are I'd be interested to hear.
Johannes
To get an better idea, we need more (detailed) pictures. From that picture I would guess the glimmering mineral could be calcite (easy to prove), the white lines are artificiall scrub or grinding marks to get a flat base.
Huntonia
Thanks, I think you are correct about the calcite. And the white being artificial makes sense, some sort of grinding tool was definitely used. I could try to get some better pictures tomorrow, however my photography setup is quite poor. caldigger
The white lines of which you speak may be the glue flouresing where the rock was put back together to prep the trilo out.
