Hello, I just joined and am curious about my petrified wood!  I live in North Dakota.  I have a lot of it over many acres however mine looks different than a lot I look up.  It’s more light gray dark gray black and white.  Any info would be appreciated.

I don't even remember the name of the place, but it looks like this stuff in South Dakota north of Sturgis.

Petrified wood come in a range of colors from deep red to light gray. It just depends on the sediments that replaced the wood.

Great specimens. Looks like you've got a LOT of it. It always looks different from different locations. Depends on the minerals that were in the sediments where it fossilized. Some areas had lots of iron=red, etc.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

It is all out of our scoria pit which clearly is coal so I’m assuming that’s why maybe.  I also have awesome lava clinkers all sizes that I like to wash and laquer they have such beautiful colors I don’t think people realize how beautiful they are until they actually see them.
