Petrified Wood or Tooth?

Hi, does anyone know what this is? My son found it in a rock pile in Toronto, Canada. Thanks!!!

The bedrock in Toronto is Ordovician in age, so too old for wood or big teeth.

But how do we know it came from bedrock? It’s gotta be some sort of fossil though no? Thx!
