Ammonite real or not

Recommended Posts

Looks real, although the center whorls appear carved (a common practice in some regions).

It's real, but as Kane mentioned, the inner whorls have been carved. The outer ones have probably been helped along a bit too. They do a lot of this in Morocco.

The preservation and coloration are pretty much dead on for Morocco.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Sorry i'm a bit late, been away for a while.

Yes, it looks Moroccan, one of the Cretaceous ones from the Agadir region, I would guess.

The ammonite is real but, as has been mentioned, it has been badly prepped and carved so it looks complete to the untrained eye.

The sellers say they sell better to the regular tourists like this.

Acanthoceras rings a bell, but there are many similar genera.
