Here is the photo. I've seen a lot of STH teeth at shows. I collected with Bob Ernst in the 90's and 2000's and saw a lot of his stuff. I've known a few other longtime STH diggers. The largest one I've held in my hand was right about the size of the one in your photo. Yours might be a first lateral or the tooth in front of it so there would have been a couple of teeth a little larger than that. The tooth I saw was one of those more hooked teeth, an apparent lateral indicating even larger teeth in front of it as well. I dug up just a couple of teeth just over 2 inches - might have a slightly bigger one that I bought. I have a much smaller tooth with that color pattern - brushstroke-like streaks along the edge. Almost touching the 3" mark. That's a great tooth. Yeah, I've found some decent stuff in dump piles - small whale petrosals (periotics) and a nice ray plate.
