What is the largest planus you have seen.  I have 8 over 2 inches.  My largest is 2.24 inches.  Here is the photo.

Very cool color pattern on that Dan!

I was walking around a tailing pile a few weeks ago and saw this at the base by my foot.

Its the white one in the middle just at 2.5"

Somebody threw it out! :o

This is my biggest C. hastalis so far. Almost touching the 3" mark.

Doh!!!  I miss read the post.

In my defense, I think that's a hastalis he has posted.

As far as I. planus are concerned,  this one tops out at  2.14"

I've seen a lot of STH teeth at shows.  I collected with Bob Ernst in the 90's and 2000's and saw a lot of his stuff.  I've known a few other longtime STH diggers.  The largest one I've held in my hand was right about the size of the one in your photo.  Yours might be a first lateral or the tooth in front of it so there would have been a couple of teeth a little larger than that.  The tooth I saw was one of those more hooked teeth, an apparent lateral indicating even larger teeth in front of it as well.

I dug up just a couple of teeth just over 2 inches - might have a slightly bigger one that I bought.

I have a much smaller tooth with that color pattern - brushstroke-like streaks along the edge.

It's a planus.  The crack and fill-in in the root makes the root look weird.  It through me off a little too making me think it was farther back in the mouth but it's most likely an anterior.

That's a great tooth.  Yeah, I've found some decent stuff in dump piles - small whale petrosals (periotics) and a nice ray plate.  I guess some newbies get excited about finding something good but then don't pack it securely.

The first one had clear bright colors but it also has the most keen edge I’ve ever felt.

the second one was named by Ron Barnes as the Flame tooth

All the teeth except the matrix tooth came from across the river at various sites in. The Hart’s park area.
