Light wood colored beach find- rib segment?

I found this polished stone at the beach recently. It looks like a sandwich made of wood. At first I thought petrified wood but the central part has tiny pores like a bone. Ideas?

I can't tell you just what kind of rock it is, but I'm pretty sure it isn't wood or bone.

Sorry, not a sandwich. No sign of fossil. Entirely geological in nature. Nice interesting mineral specimen.

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

It almost looks like a piece of fulgerite that was worn down over a VERY long time/rolling around like sea glass to become smoothed. At least, from what fulgurites look like on the outerbanks I've seen - but either way, cool looking stone! :)
