Gotta Start Them Young

I have the 5 year old grandson for a couple days and he has been talking about Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park. He loves to watch that movie when playing with his LEGOs from Jurassic Park. So I decided to grab a couple Oligocene fossils (upper Oreodont skull and partial skeleton) from South Dakota that have some work that needed to be done on them, plus I knew he could not due too much damage if I watched him, so off to prepping we went.

He kept asking for a paint brush because that is what Dr. Grant used in the movie. After a little bit of time with a dremel and an electric scribe and of course a paint brush- he had enough and so it was back to LEGOs- lol, at least I tried.

Great photos! What a lucky kid to have a grandfather with an Oreodont for him to work on!

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Jurassic Park? Dr. Grant? He's gonna need a raptor claw, at least a 3.5-incher, soon. A little bit later he'll need a raptor egg and then . . . . . . we'll have to wait for another sequel.

I would have thought I'd died and gone to heaven.  All I had was glacially eroded coral and brachs at my disposal to "prep" when I was a kid, God love 'em...

Lol- we watched the movie again today and he said “See Papa Ralphie, all you need is a paintbrush “.

I'll bet he had fun with the dremel though.

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Yes he did, but the electric scribe not too much, he said his hand was still shaking when he stopped - lol.

Nothing puts a smile on my face like a little child labor.:P With enough grandkids, you could get all your prep done while you kick back and watch a movie(a Jurassic Park sequal perhaps.) My own grandfather was into lapidary and I have fond memories of him letting me "work" with him in his little lean-to of a rock shop. Thanks for sharing.

It's tough to keep them interested at that age, even with a cool skull like that. Also I am putting myself up for adoption of you are looking to adopt :ighappy:
