Yarmouth fossil in clay

I recently went to the Isle of Wight and when I was hunting at Yarmouth beach, I found this on the foreshore amongst the pebbles. The imprint is about 1cm long. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

I'm afraid you'll have to put that object better into focus. Can't see any details on it, so it could just be part of a little concretion.

It does have a fossil appearance to it, but better photos are definitely necessary for any attempt at ID. Including all other sides of the specimen. Remember, you have it in hand -- we're working from photos, without a net. :D

I don't see anything that says fossil to me, but I'm not familiar with what is commonly found at that location. It does not appear to be an "imprint" as opposed to the actual object.

This is the closest picture I can get while still in focus. It isn’t shiny, just dull black.
