T Rex tooth?

Dracarys

Recommended Posts

I am obtaining this tooth that was collected in 1980s and found originally in S Dakota and is 3 1/2 inches. The person only identified it as dinosaur tooth. Here are the pictures. It looks like Trex right? Thanks in advance.

Yeah that is a T. rex. It is a good sized one too by the looks of it!

Judging by the color and preservation, I would guess either Hell Creek or Lance formation.

Yep nice Trex tooth.  If it was found in SD its from the Hell Creek Formation

Thank you all for your thoughts. Does there look to be root at the base?

Yes there is a small area, its dark brown, that is root.

That’s great news. Then definitely a lucky score. Here are more pics. Is the light brown area the region That is within the mandible?

I would have to see a straight in photo of the base to determine location so not sure its a Dentary/Maxillary tooth.  The light brown area is were the enamel is missing.  Teeth in a jaw sit pretty high.

@Troodon got the tooth today and was even more impressed. Very solid! Here are the cross-section of use. Can you help identify the position of the tooth. Thank you
