Urchin spine

Hi, several months ago i found a very tiny and rather flat urchin in a block which had two spines. I managed to disengage the urchin, but it is really too tiny for my camera. The spines are bigger and i wondered to what family of urchin they belong (maybe a cidarid ?)

I also join the photos of the urchin that was with them (although i don't know if that would help).

@Coco @caterpillar ?

The smallest spine :

Yes, Cidarid spine. But the echinid is hard to determine with these pics. A regular for sure. Try to put it in diluted vinegar

Thanks Dominique. We were five persons to find spine urchins like these and one person found a cm wide fragment. So there are other urchins in that site.

I put it in diluted vinegar and will try to provide the best pics i can.

I've put the urchin out of diluted vinegar hours ago but I couldn't take pics with my camera. The zoom doesn't want to move and when I try to switch it off there is that message : Erreur objectif. Fermeture automatique. Redémarrer appareil photo (Error lens. Automatic closing. Restart camera.).

Ggrr !

I don't know why, but it reminds me when the Tax Office sent me a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to threaten me with an attachment of earning and a bailiff seizure of my furnitures because I owed them the great debt of twenty cents.

So, I took pics with my phone and hope they'll be god enough. I don't hope a species identification, I just have the feeling it is also a Cidarid and like your opinion on that.

Hi,

Oh Sophie ! You only have "the belt" (:default_rofl:) of the urchin ? The periprocte and the peristoma seem to have disappeared... (anus and mouth). I can’t help any more. The only important clue I can see is that this sea urchin are the pore pairs.
