Thanks Monica.. it's one of the few complete ones we found, and the biggest. So the trip was basically successful, but I didn't come home with a bunch of complete ones for trading like I had hoped (but didn't expect). Lots of partials of course.

Did you take photos while you were fossil-hunting?  I'd love to see them if you did!

@Natalie81 I love Maastrichtian marine fossils, and you just scored a wonderful one! Those turtle bones are amazing - wish I could find that type of stuff at the Danish Maastrichtian site I work at ;)

Great discovery!!

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Thank you! I know turtle is very rare and even rarer to find bones in association. :)

My entry for this month:

Found on 17th August 2019

Allopleuron hofmanni  (Sea-turtle)  4 verts in association with the back of the shield

Maastrichtian - Emael formation

Eben-Emael  ( Belgium )

Very nice!  This turtle is an iconic species for me, whenever I think of Late Cretaceous seas I picture this species (perhaps with a mosasaur thrown in for good measure).

Here’s a rare tooth I found with @Gizmo, thanks to him for such an awesome trip! Can’t wait for the next one.

Species is rare enough I had to write the Wikipedia article for it.

Carcharocles aksuaticus

Woodstock Member, Nanjemoy FM, Ypresian, Eocene

Maryland

this month's contest will be of high quality by the number of participants, the beauty or rarity of the fossils discovered; good luck to all and thank you for presenting us these finds!
